TOGO:
Shelby VanMaanen Class of 2014

God’s heart for the nations shines so brightly in Togo! Over 4 weeks this summer, an incredible missions organization called Pioneers sent our perfect team, hand-chosen by God, to this beautiful West African country. I got to experience a culture that is rich in love and selfless beyond understanding. Our days began with teaching people of all ages how to speak English and how to use a computer, skills that will hopefully provide opportunities for an exciting future.  Each afternoon we would go and evangelize in remote villages. God introduced us to a countless number of people who were clearly hungry for answers to starved hearts that had been designed to know Him more. It was so evident that our Lord had gone before us, preparing the way, and working in the unreached hearts of the villagers! It was truly the greatest blessing to be used by Him, all for His glory! To see so many brothers and sisters come to know God and confess Christ as their Lord and Savior is something I will never forget! I am so thankful for my experience this summer and I look forward to how God will continue to do amazing and powerful things in Togo!

Kenya:
Nicole Cochran Class of 2014

My summer trip to Kenya was one of the most meaningful and wonderful experiences I’ve had the chance to be a part of. For four weeks I traveled with a team from African Christian Outreach sharing my faith with college students. We spent every morning digging deeper into the Bible and learning new ways of sharing our faith, as well as how to tell stories from the Bible and relate them back to real life. We would then spend most afternoons going door-to-door on college campuses and talking with students. It was amazing to see their openness and desire to hear about Jesus. God blessed so many of those conversations, and to be a witness to young men and women opening their hearts to the Lord was something I will never forget.  Our team was also privileged to spend time at multiple orphanages. Those children’s smiles can brighten anyone’s day, and even the older kids are so full of life and hope. To these kids, every person was someone who would love them, and every touch of the hand was a reminder of this. At any given time, every member of our team had about five or more kids attached to them, desiring attention and love. God is working in many wonderful ways throughout Kenya, in orphanages and on college campuses. He is bringing different worlds together and I am excited to see Him continue to raise up strong, faithful leaders!
